[Description of the Work]
Master artist Kitanoji Rosanjin was one of Japan’s most renowned artists. A true master whose creative activities spanned a wide range of disciplines—including ceramics, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving—he left behind a legacy of many masterpieces.
Taking “aesthetic living” as his creative theme, he overturned conventional notions of tableware and made his mark by developing an innovative artistic style.
This piece is a Bizen-yaki sake bottle. It is a large-sized bottle known as an “Oazuke Tokuri,” featuring a Bizen kiln-change finish.
The signature is carved into the foot ring.
The box inscription is by Kuroda Tōtōan.
