w6.8☓d6.4☓h5.1cm 1970s with a signed box
[Description of the Work]
Toyozō Arakawa is one of Japan’s leading ceramic masters, a Living National Treasure and recipient of the Order of Culture.
This guinomi (sake cup) was created during his later years at the studio of Kojū Nishioka, a potter from Karatsu, Saga. It incorporates the “Kawakujira” style found in early Karatsu ware.
The signature “斗” is carved with a chisel on the side of the foot.
It is a beautiful piece that has been carefully preserved and remains unused.
