Koheiji Miura Japanese tea cup, Celadon type,
w8.0×h8.6cm 2000's with a signed box
[Description of the Work]
This is a celadon teacup with “mame-sai” decoration, created by Mr. Koheiji Miura, a Living National Treasure in the field of celadon, during the final years of his life.
“To-sai” combines celadon with “Tosa-sai” (a technique blending colored painting and underglaze blue), and is renowned as one of Miura’s most original works—considered one of his masterpieces.
Many “Seiji Tosai-sai” pieces are themed around the Silk Road, and this teacup features a design depicting a woman in the red traditional attire of the Western Regions carrying a water jug balanced on her head.
Teacups are extremely rare among Miura Koheiji’s works, and those in the “Seiji To-sai” style are even more limited in number.
The footring bears the signature “小平二 Koheiji” in blue underglaze.
