1897 Born in Higashiyama, Kyoto prefecture.
1912 Entered Kyoto Ceramic Experimental Station Attached Training Center.
1918 Began ceramics in Sanjo, Kyoto.
1920 Organized a group of ceramists, ‘Aka tsuchi sha’.
1924 Awarded at the Paris Universal Exposition.
1927 Awarded his first prize at Teiten.
1937 Completed ‘Saien’ technique.
1938 Moved to Okazaki, Kyoto prefecture.
1962 Became a member of the Japan Art Academy.
1965 Moved to Yamashina, Kyoto.
1972 Designated as a person of cultural merits by Kyoto city.
1978 Received the Order of Cultural Merit.
1984 Passed away at the age of 87.

Hazan Itaya
1872 Born in Shimodate, Ibaraki prefecture.

1894 Graduated from the department of Sculpture of Tokyo school of Fine arts (current Tokyo University of Arts).

1896 Became a chief teacher of wood sculpture at Ishikawa Institute of technology.

1903 Built a studio at Tabata, Tokyo. Named himself as Hazan. Began his career as a ceramic artist.

1934 Appointed to the Art committee of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts.

1953 Became the first ceramic artist to receive the Order of Cultural Merit.

1960 Appointed to be a living national treasure, but he declined that.

1963 Passed away at the age of 91.

Chikushun Kawase I   川瀬 竹春

1894 Born in Gifu.
1907 Moved to Seto city, and began ceramics.
1910 Moved to Kyoto. Apprenticed to Yohei SeifuⅢ.
1915 Apprenticed to Chikusen MiuraⅡ.
1919 Began producing works at Higashiyama, Kyoto.
1927 Moved to Higashiyama Gojo, Kyoto.
1941 Solo exhibition in Shanghai.
1949 Invited to a kiln owned by Mitsui Family in Oiso.
1953 Moved to Oiso, Kanagawa prefecture.
1955 Designated a Living National Treasure.
1966 Received a Medal with Dark Blue Ribbon.
1970 Received the Order of the sacred treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.
1979 Handed the reigns of the family over to the first son, Junichi, and named himself as Chikuou.
1983 Passed away at the age of 89.
