Arakawa Toyozo : Sake bottle

[ Description of the Work ]
Mr. Toyozō Arakawa is one of Japan’s leading ceramic masters, a Living National Treasure and recipient of the Order of Culture.
This Shino-style sake bottle was fired in a pit kiln, resulting in a beautiful, soft reddish-brown hue.
It is signed on the foot.
It has been carefully preserved in its original, unused condition and is in excellent condition.

Nakazato Muan : Sake bottle

[Description of the Work]
This is a sake bottle by Mr. Muan Nakazato, a Living National Treasure in the field of Karatsu ware.
As the 12th-generation head of the Karatsu Ochawan Gama and Taroemon Nakazato, he was a ceramic artist who conducted research and surveys on ancient Karatsu ware and devoted himself to reviving and recreating its techniques and craftsmanship. He left behind masterpieces using the techniques of Madara Karatsu and Chosen Karatsu.
This sake bottle is a rare piece among Muan’s many works; it features a chamfered waist and brushstrokes applied with iron-glaze, making it a uniquely original creation by Muan.
The character “無” is carved into the side of the footring using a nail-carving technique.

Kitaoji Rosanjin : Sake cup

[ Description of the Work ]
This is a Benishino guinomi considered one of Kitanoji Rosanin’s masterpieces.
Created during the very late period of his career, it is characterized by its fiery red color.
The exterior is engraved with a cypress fence pattern, and the rim is flared outward for practicality.
The signature is carved into the foot of the cup.

Kaneshige Toyo : Sake cup

[Description of the Work]
Toyo Kaneshige, a Living National Treasure in the field of Bizen ware, deepened his artistic horizons through interactions with senior potters such as Handeishi Kawakita and Rosanjin Kitaoji.
This piece is a guinomi (sake cup) of the Bizen kiln-change type, created during the very late period of his career.
It is a work of exceptional beauty, featuring a stunning gradient—known as “kumadori”—where the base color transitions from reddish-brown to gray and finally to black.
The signature is carved into the foot of the piece.

Miwa Jyusetsu : Sake cup

[Description of the Work]
This piece was created by Miwa Jusetsu, the 11th-generation master of the renowned Hagi-yaki tradition. After retiring, he took the name Miwa Jusetsu and continued to create pottery well into his hundredth year.
Known for his “snow-white” Shirohagi glaze—a signature feature of his work—he left behind many masterpieces, primarily tea bowls.
This piece is one of the few guinomi (sake cups) created during his Jusetsu period and is characterized by its generously sized form.
The footring bears the signature “寿” carved in relief.

Okabe Mineo : Sake cup

[Description of the Work]
Mr. Mineo Okabe, known as the “lonely master” and a leading ceramic artist of the Showa era.
In his later years, he created many works in the celadon style.
This guinomi (sake cup) was created as a tribute to the ancient Seto ware produced during the medieval period in Seto, Okabe’s birthplace.
It is crafted with an exceptionally thin wall and features a beautiful ash glaze.
The signature is located inside the foot ring.
