Okabe Mineo : Sake cup

[Description of the Work]
Mr. Mineo Okabe, known as the “lonely master” and a leading ceramic artist of the Showa era.
In his later years, he created many works in the celadon style.
This guinomi (sake cup) was created as a tribute to the ancient Seto ware produced during the medieval period in Seto, Okabe’s birthplace.
It is crafted with an exceptionally thin wall and features a beautiful ash glaze.
The signature is located inside the foot ring.

Arakawa Toyozo : Sake cup

[Description of the Work]
Toyozō Arakawa is one of Japan’s leading ceramic masters, a Living National Treasure and recipient of the Order of Culture.
This guinomi (sake cup) was created during his later years at the studio of Kojū Nishioka, a potter from Karatsu, Saga. It incorporates the “Kawakujira” style found in early Karatsu ware.
The signature “斗” is carved with a chisel on the side of the foot.
It is a beautiful piece that has been carefully preserved and remains unused.

Arakawa Toyozo : Sake cup

[ Description of the Work ]
Mr. Toyozō Arakawa is one of Japan’s leading ceramic masters, a Living National Treasure and recipient of the Order of Culture.
This guinomi cup, crafted in the Shino style and fired in a pit kiln, features a beautiful, soft crimson hue. It is an elegant piece shaped like a lotus flower.
The interior bears the artist’s signature, “斗” carved with a nail.
This is a beautiful piece that has been carefully preserved in its original, unused condition.

Kaneshige Sozan : Sake cup

[Description of the Work]
Kaneshige Sozan was the younger brother of Kaneshige Tōyō, a Living National Treasure of Bizen ware, and a ceramist renowned for incorporating innovative techniques into traditional Bizen ware.
This piece dates from the very end of his career and is a guinomi (sake cup) in the Karatsu-style, fired in a Bizen climbing kiln. Floral patterns are painted in iron oxide on both the front and back of the cup. It is a very generously sized piece.
The signature is carved into the foot of the piece.

Kitaoji Rosanjin : Sake bottle

[Description of the Work]
Master artist Kitanoji Rosanjin was one of Japan’s most renowned artists. A true master whose creative activities spanned a wide range of disciplines—including ceramics, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving—he left behind a legacy of many masterpieces.
Taking “aesthetic living” as his creative theme, he overturned conventional notions of tableware and made his mark by developing an innovative artistic style.
This piece is a Bizen-yaki sake bottle. It is a large-sized bottle known as an “Oazuke Tokuri,” featuring a Bizen kiln-change finish.
The signature is carved into the foot ring.
The box inscription is by Kuroda Tōtōan.

Kaneshige Toyo : Sake cup

[Description of the Work]
Toyo Kaneshige, a Living National Treasure in the field of Bizen ware, deepened his artistic horizons through interactions with senior potters such as Handeishi Kawakita and Rosanjin Kitaoji.
This piece is a guinomi (sake cup) of the Bizen-yohen type, created during the very late period of his career.
It is a work of exceptional beauty, featuring a striking gradient—known as “kumadori”—where the base color transitions from reddish-brown to gray and finally to black.
Inside the foot ring, there is a “ト” signature carved with a nail.
